Hector Adonis Regaldo Landaverde, 22, of Oxen Hill, MD, is accused of firing the shots that struck a 24-year-old man on the 14700 block of Darbydale Avenue in Woodbridge on Feb. 6, Prince William County police said.
A man allegedly approached the victim and tried to stab him with a large knife around 10:15 p.m. that night, police said. Two other men approached from a nearby wooded area, and suffered a gash while running from the trio, in an attempt to avoid being stabbed, police said.
While running, the suspects fired multiple rounds, striking the victim in the lower body. The man was able to flag down a passing motorist who drove him to a nearby home where police were contacted.
Responding officers provided first aid until fire and rescue personnel arrived on scene. Fire and rescue personnel flew the man to an area hospital where they determined his injuries were non-life threatening. Officers and a police K-9 searched the area for the suspects who were not located. No additional injuries or property damage were reported.
Regaldo Landaverde was later identified as a suspect, and warrants for his arrest were issued. He was captured on Oct. 30 in Prince George's County, MD, and was extradited to Prince William County, where he is being held without bond.
